The Head of India's 42,000 state auditors met with the SAO President in Prague to discuss mutual cooperation in the INTOSAI Knowledge Sharing Committee
PRESS RELEASE ON THE MEETING OF TWO INTOSAI REPRESENTATIVES IN PRAGUE – 9 February 2026
On Monday, 9 February 2026, two prominent representatives of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) and members of the INTOSAI Governing Board met at the headquarters of the Supreme Audit Office (SAO) in Prague: Miloslav Kala, SAO President, and K. Sanjay Murthy, Head of the Supreme Audit Institution of India (SAI India). Murthy currently chairs INTOSAI's important Knowledge Sharing Committee (KSC), and at the end of October 2025, the SAO became the first Vice-Chair of this committee in its history.
“The SAO has extensive experience in knowledge sharing. We have been involved in this area since 2017, when the SAO was accepted onto the EUROSAI Governing Board, and it has been a key focus throughout our Presidency of this European audit organisation from 2021 to 2024. We shared our experience with K. Sanjay Murthy and agreed on the roles and rules of cooperation between the Chair and us as the new Vice-Chair of the INTOSAI Knowledge Sharing Committee at the meeting," said SAO President Miloslav Kala after the meeting.
He added that of all INTOSAI committees and working groups, it is the Knowledge Sharing Committee that is closest to the INTOSAI motto – Mutual exchange of experience benefits everyone. "One of the goals of the new EUROSAI strategic plan that we have pushed through is to focus on the real needs of auditors. This means communicating directly with auditors, because no one else can better define their needs," said SAO President Miloslav Kala.
According to President Kala, knowledge sharing is key to ensuring a rapid response to emerging issues. The COVID-19 pandemic and then Russia's attack on Ukraine were a stress test: "We set ourselves the goal of coordinating assistance to this attacked country within EUROSAI. For example, the SAO brought 80 laptops to our Ukrainian colleagues so that they could continue their work. We provided shelter for six months to a total of 72 Ukrainian auditors and their families, and not only them," said the SAO President. According to the SAO President, technical innovations are another fundamental pillar of knowledge sharing: “In 2016, the BIEP information exchange project was launched. In the secure environment of this portal, auditors can share information and compare knowledge, procedures, and methodologies.”
Addressing his Indian colleagues, President Kala emphasised that they are experienced experts and leaders who know exactly what works in INTOSAI. However, if any of the examples he presented to them caught their interest, there is nothing to prevent them from implementing them: “We are ready to provide the know-how,” concluded the SAO President.
SAI India employs 42,000 state auditors. Interestingly, given the size of the population, the Czech Supreme Audit Office, with just under 300 auditors, has a comparable number of auditors per capita.
The International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) is an autonomous, independent, professional, and non-political organisation. It currently has 195 full members.
